HMS Victory Pen
The HMS Victory is best known for being the flagship of Vice Admiral Nelson and fighting in the battle of Trafalgar. The HMS Victory took six years to build launching in 1765. By then the 7 Years' War had ended in Europe and she was placed in mothballs until finally being commissioned in 1778. Between 1778 and 1812 she fought in 5 major battles all under different admirals. Her final battle was the battle of Trafalgar. In 1805 Lord Nelson discovered that the French and Spanish fleet had departed their safe harbor and he gave chase. Though the allied forces outnumbered him Nelson divided his fleet into two lines and instead of fighting ship to ship he crossed his enemies line and quickly defeated the opposing fleet. In the subsequent combat he was mortally wounded dieing three hours after being shot but in time to know he had won. In 1922 the ship was placed in dry dock and renovated. Saved from the wrecker she became a museum and is the oldest actively commissioned ship in the world, probably the most famous as well.
Our wood was taken during her renovation and comes with a certificate of provenance.
